JK - June 7 / 2019

It’s been a busy week! Students enjoyed their field trip to The Harbourfront Centre as they attended a colour mixing workshop where they illustrated the Toronto landscape. On Thursday, students attended their first ever Junior School Track & Field Day!

We have wrapped up our unit on Sharing the Planet, and students are excited to continue caring for their plants over the summer. We have been working on completing their self-portrait books and it’s so exciting to see the progress over the year. We have also been working on making books for the incoming JK students and have continued to explore measurement through weight, height, and length.

In French, the students have been learning a song about summer called Quand c’est l’ete. Please follow the link to view the song.

 Quand c'est l'ete

In Music, the students learned a song called Go All Around the Village. The JKs choose different ways of keeping the beat as two students walk around the circle and as they then go through ‘windows’ (children hold hands in a circle and raise their hands up to make windows). The students also listened to a new book about the power of music called, Because.

Thank you all for a terrific Track and Field Day! We hope everyone enjoyed themselves participating in the activities. The House spirit was fantastic! Go York!

In Art, the JKs used their imagination to turn a scribble into a beautiful work of art. Each student was given paper with a unique, curvy line. Students then used Sharpie marker to add lots of detail and colour to their drawings.

Before Care Reminder
A gentle reminder that Before Care does NOT start until 7:30 AM.  There is no supervision before that time.

Looking Ahead

With this warm weather, please make sure that your child has a sun hat and that you apply sunscreen to them before school. If you like, you may also send in sunscreen that they may re-apply themselves if necessary.

We have an exciting final week of school ahead of us with the Fun Day, Closing Assembly and Class Parties to look forward. The JK team is excited to celebrate all the learning and accomplishments from the year.

It has been a pleasure and honour to have your child in our classes this year. They have learned, grown and become independent thinkers. Thank you for all your support throughout the year, The JK Team.

Please make sure to check The York School’s full school calendar regularly for updates, locations and times.
