Student Focused Interviews

“Collaborative, transparent, productive and interesting.” These were comments made by teachers, parents and students who participated in our new interview format that puts our students at the centre. Thank you all for participating in a new process. It was so great to see students present.  If you have any feedback to share, please send an email message to Helen Gin, Middle School Principal, at: hgin@yorkschool.com

Term 1 Recognition Assembly

As we continue to talk about each child's unique student experience as writing their own personal stories, we felt it was important to come together at the end of the term to celebrate the many accomplishments of our students.

Our new recognition assemblies give students and faculty time to reflect upon and honour growth, learning and achievement in the areas of the arts, athletics, public speaking and debate, mathematics, DECA, Model UN, student leadership and much more. This new format highlighted the diverse opportunities our students are engaging in and the many ways in which they excel beyond the classroom.

Last Tuesday, we recognized the learning experiences and achievements of our Middle and Senior School students. Special “shout-outs” go to the Grade 8 house captains who attend the CAIS Leadership Conference in the fall: Phoebe Rotman, Sierra Benayon-Abraham, Davis Dejean, and Alex Rosen.

In our Social and Emotional Learning classes (SEL), we have been exploring the anchors of emotional intelligence using the Mood Meter and the Meta Mind. RULER is an acronym that stands for Recognizing, Understanding, Labeling, Expressing and Regulating emotions.

You can find more information on the RULER program from Yale University HERE.

Tunes for Toonies

At 2 p.m. on Friday, November 24th, the Middle School will be rocking out during our third annual Tunes for Toonies concert!

As part of their service initiative, Grade 8 students will be organizing and running the concert in order to raise funds for Global Pathways School (GPS) in Chettipalayam, India. Through the exploration of global demographics, students have identified that education is one of the three biggest factors that leads to a higher quality of life for individuals. Bring your toonies and your dance moves!
