Welcome back to 2018!
I hope the winter vacation break was family and fun filled, whether in cold or warm temperatures. There was an abundance of energy in the halls this past week sharing and re-establishing routines.
Here are a few important reminders:
Cell phone use is permitted for 10 minutes at the beginning of lunch. Outside of this time It must be stowed away in the locker. Phones used outside of these times or stored on their body/bags will be confiscated to the main office and returned at the end of the day. A pattern of phone misuse or management will result in a loss of phone privileges at lunch. Parents are reminded of best practices around digital devices and set family parameters about screen time, checking in phones/laptops at a certain time of the night, and ensuring students do not access social media sites any earlier than 13 years of age (i.e. Instagram).
Arrivals, departures and absences
Please use the 1320 laneway for car arrivals and pick ups. Please refrain from stopping on Yonge street or parking illegally on Woodlawn or Farnham Ave to respect our neighbours.
Please report any absences to email@example.com .
Please be reminded that flu season continues and keeping school members healthy is to wash hands regularly and staying home when ill. Note that members of our school community are at medical risk if students attend school when they have the flu.
Wet coats and boots
Wet coats, long coats or puffy coats can be hung on coat racks on the 4th level by the printer. Boots can be stowed in the cubbies below student lockers.

Grade 7 Speech Competition
Before the winter break, grade 7 English students wrote and presented a memorized speech based on a topic of their choosing. Two students from each grade 7 class have been chosen to compete in the grade 7 Speech Competition. These students are Abby Smith and Julia Hardy from 7A, Logan Daniels and Helen Sava from 7B, and Louis Rudolph Naiberg and Ashley Kimmel from 7C. The student who wins this competition will move forward to the Sterling Hall Competition that occurs in April of this year.
We would like to invite our York Community to join us for this exciting event that will be held next Wednesday, January 17th at 8:30 am in the gym. The speech competition will run for approximately one hour.
Please make sure to check The York School’s full school calendar regularly for updates, locations and times.
