Traffic Safety Reminders

We were all shocked and saddened to hear of the death of 5-year old Camila Torcato this week at St. Raphael School, which occurred during pick-up time at that school. The tragic incident reminds us, once again, of the seriousness of following the guidelines that we give to parents about dropping off or picking up students at our school.

I have too often witnessed York School community members choosing their child’s convenience over the safety of others.  Please commit to following the rules so all our students and other community members are safe.

We have asked parents to do the following when dropping off a child:

  1. Use the south lane to drop off your child

  2. When dropping off your child in the south lane, pull your car up to the westerly extremity of the lane, just in front of the garage opening before letting your child out of the car,

  3. Do not stop in the laneway in front of the main entrance to let your child off,

  4. Do not stop illegally on Farnham Avenue or in the laneway that runs between Farnham and Balmoral Streets

When picking up your child:

  1. Park in the underground garage and have your child come to your car,

  2. Be extremely careful and drive extremely slowly when driving in the garage or on the school lane,

  3. Do not park or stop illegally on Farnham or in the laneway that runs between Farnham and Balmoral Streets

  4. Do not stop in the laneway and wait for your child

Thank you for your help with this safety matter.
