As we continue to solidify school routines, please note the following to help you plan and support your son/daughter. We do encourage Middle School students to take ownership of their social and academic responsibilities. Our homeroom teachers spend time each day noting their academic responsibilities and other relevant events (i.e. casual dress dates) and ask students to add to their agendas.
Events can be viewed on the school calendar accessed via YorkNet or the website. This calendar includes, for example, holidays, parent-teacher-student interviews, field trips, class photos, lice checks, lunch outs etc.
Assessments that contribute toward a student’s course grade (i.e. tests, assignments, presentations, projects) can be viewed through your son/daughter’s Blackboard account (which you can also link to in YorkNet) under the assignment calendar.
Cell Phone Policy
Students are permitted 10 minutes at the beginning of each lunch to check messages (if applicable). They are required to keep phones in their lockers, not on their body or in backpacks. If phones are seen outside of the 10 minute period, they will be confiscated and returned at the end of the day from the Principal’s office. If you need to contact your son/daughter, please call the Middle School Administrative Assistant, Sally Warren, at 416-926 1325 ext. 1111 to relay a message.
Communication from the School
You will begin to receive TRAIL mail (Taking Responsibility and Action for Independent Learning) which is an email sent by the student to their parents, counsellor and the subject teacher after receiving an assessment result. Students are asked to communicate their assessment results, reflections and next steps. In Middle School, this can also include reflections about inappropriate behaviours.
Teachers may contact parents directly if students are behaving inappropriately and/or need extra support.
Wishing all families a lovely Thanksgiving weekend.

Grade 6 and 7 Excursions to YMCA Wanakita
Last week, the Grade 6 and 7 students participated in grade-level overnight excursions to Camp Wanakita in Haliburton. While participating in various outdoor activities such as low ropes, high ropes, and fire building, students worked together, supported each other, and challenged themselves. Students and teachers returned to school this week with a stronger sense of community that will continue to grow as they move through the school year.
