School Work - Home/Life Balance

It is important that our students are adjusting to the routines of school and home life balance.

At the Middle School, our homework guidelines are as follows:

  • Grade 6 - no more than 60 minutes/night

  • Grade 7 or 8 - no more than 70-80 minutes/night

If your son or daughter is exceeding these times, consider the following which could be factors contributing to the situation:

  • Are they working in an environment that is free from distractions?

  • Are they getting to tasks with little energy left following other after-school commitments?

  • Have they missed lessons or material to enable completion of task?

  • Do they have challenges with task initiation?

These factors can be mitigated by support from parents and/or teachers.  Feel free to reach out to HR teachers or subject teachers for suggestions.

Caribou Math Contest

On Wednesday and Thursday, students in Middle and Senior School challenged themselves by writing the first Caribou Math Contest. There are 6 contests throughout the year; students set personal goals and strive for self-improvement through the year by challenging themselves to a series of math and logic problems.

If you missed the first one, there's still time to join in on the fun. The next contest takes place November 15 and 16.

Email kwalker@yorkschool.com if you want to participate.
