Upcoming Student Centred Interviews - November 7 & 15

Please note that student dismissal on November 7 and 15 will be at 11:40 pm after their period 4 class. However, they are welcome to stay and have lunch in the cafeteria and work in the Learning Commons on the first floor until the end of day, 3:30 pm.

The Citizenship department and student leaders have planned a fun ½ week to celebrate Halloween.

Dress Up!

Students are invited to come to school dressed up in a Halloween costume on Wednesday, October 31st. There will be an extended assembly on this day to showcase costumes.

PRIZES!! In honour of THE YORK SCHOOL FUND supporting the Middle/Senior School musical this year, the first 10 students/parents/staff to post a photo of their WIZARD OF OZ themed costume on Halloween AND tag @theyorkschool and/or #yorklearns on social media, will get some SWAG from the Advancement Department! There’s no place like home!

Halloween - WE Scare Hunger Food Drive

WE SCARE HUNGER - As part of The York School’s commitment to the WE organization, we are holding a WE Scare Hunger food drive to benefit Toronto’s Daily Bread Food Bank until Wednesday, October 31st. Each grade is responsible for bringing in specific items. Every item brought in is another point for your grade during the Colour Clash!

Please see the list below to see what your grade is responsible for and where you can drop off your food. Thank you for participating in WE Scare Hunger!

  • How do I drop off my food?

    • First - Check in with your homeroom teacher and show the food items you have brought in to receive a sticker!

    • Grades 6, 7 and 8 collection bins located on Middle School Commons on the fourth floor

  • What food can I bring in?

    • Please also consider bringing in baby food, formula and diapers!

      • Grade 6: canned soup, canned stew or chili

      • Grade 7: canned fruit, canned vegetables

      • Grade 8: pasta, pasta sauce

Grade 8 parents are invited to an informal coffee morning session from 8:30-9:30 a.m. in the Learning Commons to learn more about the academic and social adjustments and to share your child’s transition experience.  Present will be Helen Gin, Middle School Principal, Jennifer Robertson, Learning Strategist and Katie McParlan  grade 8 teacher to answer any questions you may have.


If you have registered your child for the Athlete Institute for the High Performance basketball led by led by NBA and International Shooting/Skills Development Coach, David Nurse please note there has been a change in dates due the gym being used for the Drama Production. Sessions originally scheduled for Friday, November 30th to Sunday December 2nd have been moved to Friday January 11th to Sunday January 13th. An email will be sent out as well for a friendly reminder but the session details will remain the same and will be changed on the google form that can access here.
