HOUSE T-SHIRTS

The deadline to ensure students have purchased a house shirt is fast approaching. To combat a sea of grey and black hoodies, we made a commitment this year for everyone to purchase a mandatory school house t-shirt. All past baseball house shirts are welcome.

If you child has yet to order a house shirt ($20.00), we are placing a mass order so that everyone will have their shirt prior to the deadline which is our first house meeting of the new year on January 15th. It will be an expectation from that day forward that students wear the school sanctioned house shirt on all HOUSE SWAG Casual Days. They are also encouraged to wear any other house coloured accessories to show their spirit. You may have ordered your t-shirt already through YorkNet but we wanted to provide this opportunity if you had not.

The electronic order form was shared with Middle and Senior school students this week so they may have taken the initiative to place the order and charge it to their account. Please check in with your child to see if they already have a shirt or have placed their order before adding their name to the House Shirt Order Form 2018  The deadline for this mass order is Thursday, Dec. 6th at 3pm. Shirts will be distributed in January when we return to school.

Grade 7 Pinewood Derby

On Monday December 10th we will be holding our 7th annual Grade 7 Pinewood Derby.

Please save the date as you won't want to miss this great event. Each year the Grade 7's student culminate their design unit with this morning long competition.

Over the past several weeks your sons and daughters have been busy designing, cutting, sanding, painting and testing (some children even asked if they could put their derby cars through a windtunnel to test aerodynamics) their Pinewood Derby cars so they might be ready for the December 10th race day.

The event will run from 9:00 am to 11:30 am in the gymnasium so if you have the opportunity to book it off and join us we would love to have you.

Here is a video from two years ago to give you a sense of why you won't want to miss it - NOTE: No stunt goldfish were harmed in the making of this video. https://vimeo.com/194996944

MIDDLE SCHOOL LIVES, THEN & NOW

As Shared by a Middle School Teacher

The linked article is a realistic and poignant snapshot of middle school life in 2008 compared to now, 10 years later in a technologically rich and connected world. Thank you to our Director of Wellness, Elissa Kline-Beber for sharing.

“Remind them that, as the saying goes, adventures don’t come calling like unexpected cousins. They have to be found. Tell them to go outside and explore the real world. Childhood is fleeting. It shouldn’t be spent staring at a screen.”
