All News December 7

We all love winter play outdoors! And, as the Norwegians say: “There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes”.

So with that in mind, please be reminded for outdoor recess during the winter weather students in JK, SK and Grades 1 - 3 are expected to have and wear a coat, snow pants, hats, mittens and boots to keep them both warm and dry from the time of the first snowfall or as of December 1, whichever comes first. This is for all outdoor recess play times.

Students in Grades 4 and 5 are expected to have and wear the winter gear they feel they need to keep them both warm and dry during outdoor recess play times. Students in Grades 4 and 5 will not be permitted to stay inside for recess if they have forgotten or chosen not to bring their gear to school. They will also not be permitted to go back inside the school to get their gear if they have chosen to leave it inside their cubby.

*New* Junior School Celebration Assembly

On Friday, December 14th at 8:40 AM, students in Grades 1-5 will join together in the Junior School gym for our first Celebration Assembly.

The assembly is a time for the community to celebrate the many achievements this term - from math to music to sports - of students. The event will include recognizing student athletes from our fall teams:  the U11 Girls’ basketball team, U9-U11 Cross country team, and the U-9 to U11 Soccer. There will be a choir performance celebrating our ‘vocal chops’ and the Junior School students who are participating in the Caribou Math Contest will be recognized as well.

Families are welcome to attend!

Instead of having one Junior School Athletic Assembly in June, this new Celebration Assembly format recognizes all student achievements including our student athletes each term.

As you can see by the fun tweet below, this event is always a huge hit at the Middle and Senior School!

From Tuesday, December 3rd to Friday, December 14th, The York School JK- 12 is collecting winter clothes for our annual New Circles Winter Clothing Drive. Please bring in any winter gear to help this fantastic local organization support newcomers to Toronto and low-income families! This includes boots, snow pants, coats, scarves, hats, mittens, long pants, socks, girls’ tights, etc.

If you are in the Junior School drop donations into your house boxes in the Gathering Space. Middle School students, please bring your items to your homeroom so Grade Leaders or House Captains can tally how many items you donated before dropping your items off in your house box in the Middle School Commons. If you are in the Senior DIvision, place your clothes directly in your house box at the top of the stairs in the Cafeteria.

The House that collects the most clothing will win a cozy winter clothing casual day.

Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity.
