This morning, parents got a sneak peek into how we can reimagine a multi-functional playground for the Junior School that allows for increased fun and outdoor learning time.

Over breakfast, they experienced first hand the proposed new space through a virtual simulation and provided insightful feedback to our Design Team. Thank you to all who participated and gave their time and ideas.

To keep the community up to date on Playground developments visit our new Playground website REIMAGINEPLAY to learn more. This site will be able to answer important questions to help our children grow up smart, strong and healthy. Here, we’ll share with you videos and timelines, and articles on the importance of outdoor play for our students and how you can get involved.

Visit REIMAGINE PLAY and help navigate our York School student through the various playground highlights. We’ve also posted more images from this morning’s event onto our PLAYGROUND blog.

Report Cards for JK to Grade 5 students will be available on YorkNet on Monday, January 28th.  Student-centred conferences for Grades 1 – 5 and Parent Teacher Interviews for JK and SK are set for Thursday, January 31st and Tuesday, February 5th  from 2:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and from 6:15 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on each of these days.

Student dismissals on both of these dates will be as follows:
JK to Grade 2 will be dismissed at 1:45 p.m.
Grades 3 to 5 will be dismissed at 2:00 p.m.

As with our previous interviews/conferences, bookings will all be made online any time after 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 17th  through YorkNet using an integrated service called Pick-A-Time, so please have your YorkNet username and password ready. At this time, you will see the “Book Parent-Teacher Interviews” button. As interviews for the Junior School and the Middle/Senior School are booked by division, you will need to select each event separately in order to make the appropriate bookings. Once you have chosen Junior School, select one of the two days, and proceed with booking.

Interviews with specialists are restricted to five minutes, but you should book three consecutive five minute conference/interviews with homeroom teachers. If you or your child’s teacher have more serious concerns, a longer interview should be arranged at a mutually convenient time. Also, we feel that it is in the best interest of a student if separated/divorced parents can make arrangements to attend the same interview.

Homeroom teachers will be in their classrooms and all specialist teachers will be in the gymnasium for the interviews which will allow for time effective transitions. You may book back-to-back interviews if interviews are in the gym; however, if you have to travel elsewhere in the building, you are advised to leave five minutes in between interviews.

Please note: All students in Grades 1-5 are to attend the conferences with parents. The Student-Centred Conference provides a forum for teachers, students and parents to share student learning experiences and student achievement, as well as areas for further development. The Student-Centred Conference also provides the first opportunity for students to join the conversation about their progress.

Every effort has been made to simplify the online booking process. If you have any difficulty at all, do not hesitate to call Kate Boynton at 416. 926.1325 ext. 1614 and she will be glad to assist you.
