pasted image 0.png

Dear Parents,

On Friday, May 3rd the Junior School Playground will be closed for the entire day due to construction. Construction is to begin at 9 AM but will be completed by pick up time in the afternoon. For our JK/SK parents who may be dropping their children off after 9 AM,  please use the Yonge Street front door entrance. The playground drop off circle will be closed as of 9 AM.

Since the playground will remain off limits for the entire day, recesses will be either indoors or re-arranged within the school.

Thank you for your cooperation!

Have you seen the VR video rendering of our new Junior School Playground? Come see what the children will be playing on in September 2019!

The York School’s $1.5 million playground will be home to our 250 Junior School students throughout the school day for Recess, Outdoor Learning and After-School practices!

A BIG THANK YOU to our faculty, students and parents who have provided valuable input along the way.

With opportunities to play, learn and take risk - The York School’s Playground promises to be an extension of the classroom. Through your generous support, our Architects have designed a Playground that our children will absolutely love, and many of you have been instrumental in helping raise $ 1,025,000 so far. Thank you. Only a final $ 475,000 left to go!

Dear Parents,

This year Student-led conferences will take place on Thursday, May 2, 2019. Families are invited to visit both Homeroom and specialist classrooms. Each Homeroom conference is expected to take approximately 30 minutes. The conferences for students in JK and SK  will take place in the Homeroom classroom and the Discovery Zone area.

Through portfolios and active demonstrations of learning, students feel a strong sense of ownership of their work and take pride in sharing their progress with you during the Student-led conferences, while giving you the opportunity to gain a greater understanding of their achievements.

Throughout the year, students continually select and reflect on samples of work from a variety of subject areas. They think about their strengths and areas for growth and set goals for the final term. Students look forward to sharing their work and their developing understanding of themselves as learners. As your children share their learning during their conference time, please look for opportunities to discuss those areas requiring some growth, goals they have set, concerns they may express. Above all, we encourage you to take the opportunity to celebrate their achievements.

Please book the time for your conference through YorkNet beginning on or after 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, 2019. Sign in to YorkNet and begin the booking process by clicking on the “Student-led Conferences” button. If you have any difficulty, do not hesitate to call Kate Boynton at 416.926.1325 ext.1614 and she will be glad to assist you.

In order for the teachers to set up their classrooms for the student-led conferences, dismissal on May 2 will be at the following times: 1:45 p.m. for JK – Grade 2 and 2:00 p.m. for Grades 3 - 5. Students who are scheduled for the first conference time will remain in school until their conference begins at 2:15 p.m. Other students, who are not picked up at the early dismissal time, will go to the Junior School library where they will be supervised until their conference time or until they are picked up.

In order to set your child up for a successful Student-led conference, we ask that you please put your phone on silence and away except to take photos.  As well, we encourage you to give each of your children individual attention. Supervision is available in the Library for any siblings.

Finally, we invite you to visit all of the specialist subject teachers in their individual classrooms, the gymnasium, and at our annual Art show in the cafeteria.

If you have any questions, please email kmccallum-ryan@yorkschool.com.

We value your partnership in your child’s learning journey; and, we look forward to seeing you on May 2nd.

Kind regards,

Valerie Turner
Junior School Principal
