Debaters Shine at the Toronto Regional Tournament

Last Sunday, eight members of the York School’s Debate Team competed at Branksome Hall at the Toronto Regional Tournament. The students debated four rounds - two rounds of the prepared motion, “This House Supports an Independent Catalonia” and two rounds of impromptu “This House would impose curfews in high crime neighbourhoods” and “This House Would Support female-only tech firms."

When all the results were tallied, the debate team of Mia Feldman and Ben Singer placed 5th overall and Georgia Samuel and Emma Evans placed 7th overall, both with 3-1 records. As a result, both teams have progressed to the Senior Provincials Tournament at Havergal College at the end of February. More congratulations to Ben Singer, who placed 4th overall speaker. Way to go, debaters!

Senior School Arts Night
This year’s Arts Night was a break from tradition, as we embraced our exciting new building and filled it from the first to the fourth floor with sounds, sights and drama! Thank you to our Arts faculty, and especially Mr. Biagiarelli, who organized the new format that included music in the Learning Commons and Cafeteria, art and film in the Frii Zone and art room, and dramas by both grade 10 and 11 classes in the drama room.

Athlete of the Month

At our assembly this week, we recognized our Senior School Athletes of the Month for November/December.

Congratulations to Kate Mc-Neil Stamper, for her fantastic contributions to the Junior Varsity Girls Volleyball - D1 team, and to Kris Sanderson, for burning up the court on the Varsity Boys Basketball team.

Go Gladiators!
