Student-Centred Interviews Nov. 7 - 15 - Pick a Time Goes Live Wednesday at 1 pm

You will have received an e-mail regarding this today, but just a reminder that if you want a jump on selecting times for your student-centred interviews, we will be releasing Pick a Time at 1 pm on Wednesday of next week.  Student-centred interviews take place on November 7th and 15th. Here is a link to instructions as to how to work through the Pick a Time process.

Again this year, we are asking parents to bring their child with them so that everyone can be involved in the conversation about your child’s progress. To allow for the added voice, we have added 2 minutes onto each interview, such that interviews with teachers will be 7 minutes in length (except ICE teachers, who will meet with you for 14 minutes). We recommend that you book your child’s advisor last so that he or she can help you and your child to process what they’ve heard and create an overall plan for moving forward.

We anticipate the structure of each interview to proceed as follows:

  1. The teacher will ask the student to reflect on the year so far.

  2. The teacher will share his/her observations

  3. The parent will be invited to share observations and ask questions

  4. The teacher will summarize major conclusions and indicate next steps forward.

The emphasis throughout is to create a positive foundation for your child’s ongoing progress. We look forward to talking with you and your child on one of the two days of interviews.

The next uniform exchange date is October 25th, 2018 from 11:00 - 1:00. The location for the Top Marks uniform fitting/exchange will be in Room 119 at 1320 Yonge Street (NOT IN THE Gladiator Centre as previously communicated). Parents are asked to enter and sign in at the main reception at 1320 Yonge Street, where they will then be directed to meeting room 119 (Room 119 is at the end of the hall just past where Mr. Hamilton and Mr. Hanna's offices are located).

Take Our Kids to Work Day

Wednesday November 14th - All grade 9 students.

Take Our Kids to Work Day, is an annual career exploration event,  taking place on Wednesday, November 14th, 2018. Students in Grade 9 will spend the day in the workplace of a parent, relative, friend or volunteer host, where they can experience and learn about the world of work.  This event also gives parents the opportunity to discuss career prospects with their children, and allows businesses to share knowledge, experience and advice around education, career choices and relevant skills required in today’s workplace.

Parents of grade 9 students must be sure to submit the online Take Our Kids to Work Day form to give their consent for their child to participate in this event. This form is available on YorkNet  and should be completed by November 7th.

Please note that there will be no grade 9 classes or programming in session on November 14th at The York School. It is our goal that our students will join the other 250, 000 young people across the country and take full advantage of this unique opportunity.
