YORK SCHOOL DEBATERS CONTINUE TO SHINE

The York School Debate Programme has continued its tradition of excellence in October and November. From the 26th to the 29th of October, three students travelled to St. Clements for the annual International Independent School Public Speaking Championships. Students participated in a range of events such as interpretive reading, persuasive speaking and extemporaneous speaking. When the results were tallied, the York School team of Jamie Rygiel-Baban, Ben Singer and Ruby Grinberg were 10th out of 44 teams. In addition, Ben was in two event finals, parliamentary debate and persuasive speaking, and Ruby was in an interpretive reading final.

That same weekend, eight York School debate students travelled to TFS for the Ontario British Parliamentary Championships. After six gruelling rounds, the team of Sean Lavery and Jacob Gorodensky made it to the senior semi final and the U15 team of Jacob Deegan and Elliott Friedland made it to the finals. As a result of their performance, both teams will join Emma Evans and Georgia Samuel at the National British Parliamentary Championships held at the York School 30 November - 2 December.

Three weeks later, four York School students competed at the Provincial Public Speaking Championships at Appleby College. In terms of overall results Ruby Grinberg finished 10th, Ryan Cho finished an eighth,  Mia Feldman finished and fifth and Ben Singer is this year’s provincial public speaking champion! Mia and Ben will now travel to Winnipeg in February to compete at the National Public Speaking Championships. This is the first time a school has had all four of their competitors in the top ten.

Congratulations to all member of the York School Debate team! We're super proud of your achievements.

MUCH LOST, LITTLE FOUND

In an effort to reunite students with their lost articles, we have spread lost-and-found items on tables on the third floor.  These will remain in place until Friday, November 30th, at which point they will be gathered and given to charity. Please encourage your child to look through the articles before they are gone for good.
