The International Service Trip to India - UPDATE ON DEVELOPMENTS

As many of you will know, a group of 19 grade 11 students and four teacher chaperones have been busily working toward their goal of travelling to India where they will work as volunteers in Global Pathways School, a school that was founded by our own founding head of school, Barbara Goodwin-Zeibots and Barbara Galbraith, a former head of the Junior School.

In the recent past, the India trip has involved sending as two separate groups of students at two different times. This year, our first group was scheduled to leave today, with the second group heading out on March 15th. Recent developments in India, which have been the subject of widespread news coverage, have prompted the school to delay the departure of the first India group, in the hopes that tensions between Pakistan and India will subside with diplomatic intervention. The students of the first trip are now scheduled to depart on March 15th along with the other group.

We are thankful that Jim Brickell, principal of GPS, and his staff, have been able to accommodate us with this sudden change in plans, and that our Trip Coordinator, Andrea Lossing, has been so resourceful in facilitating the changes.

The International Service Trip - Kenya

This Sunday a group of Students head to Maasai Mara Kenya to carry out their service trip with Me To We. Led by Middle School Counsellor Glen Blair, and MS/SS Mathematics Chair Robin Johannsen, we wish them the learning trip of a lifetime and look forward to hearing their stories upon their return.

Model United Nations

The York School Model United Nations delegation left for New York earlier this week to learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations. In addition to critical thinking, teamwork, and developing leadership abilities it is meant to engage students and allow them to develop deeper understanding of current world issues. We look forward to having them share their stories upon their return. Caring engaged citizens of the word indeed.

Our next sessions for the Athlete Institute will be for High Performance basketball  led by NBA and International Shooting/Skills Development Coach, David Nurse. This is a great opportunity to come and learn and develop your basketball skills. If you partake in The York Basketball community you should sign up for at least 1 of these sessions that are being offered. Sessions are scheduled for Friday, March 29th to Sunday March 31st. You can sign up using the google form by clicking here.

Please make sure to check The York School’s full school calendar regularly for updates, locations and times.
