We have had a fantastic and busy week! It was lovely meeting with those parents who came to interviews on Thursday, We love sharing your children’s learning! We look forward to seeing everyone else on Tuesday.
During inquiry, we looked at the sense of hearing this week. The children met one of our Grade 1 students who wears two hearing aids, her “magic ears”, and she explained how they help her. We read books and wrote some facts about our ears. We listened and moved to music, including acapella, and could not believe there are no real instruments!
The children went through the scientific method while doing class experiments. SKA used our sense of sight to make hypotheses about what would happen to Orbeez when placed in water. The SKBs have just wrapped up their Shaving Cream experiment. They love being scientists!
In Math, we discussed sequencing as related to time. They did hands on puzzles and then coloured, cut and pasted a sequence of events.
We did our weekly journal entries, and the children enjoyed writing their own stories (inspired by our author visit last week!). We also learned a new poem.
In French, the students have been practising to say the date, count up to 30 and describe the weather. The students have also starting to speak about the five senses.
In Music, the SKs continue to use the Boomwhackers to play “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star”. This week they moved to different styles of music using streamers. The SKs can also sing a Valentine’s song called Tony Chestnut.
In Art class, students have completed their 3D mixed media piece that tied to the global perspectives unit. These pieces will be featured in the art show. We began exploring how the 5 senses can be utilized to support and inform our art in art class.
