SK - March 29 / 2019

Thanks to all of you who could attend the Learning Celebration this morning. We are very proud of the children and they are very proud of themselves!

HIGHLIGHTS

Our new unit will begin next week. It is our last inquiry unit of the year, and it is Where we are in place and time. Our central idea is: Humans have a universal need for shelter. We will be exploring shelters around the world, looking at the influence of weather in building design and the properties of building materials.

Math

In Math, we are continuing patterning practicing counting by 2s, 5s and 10s. We are also working on our strategies for solving word problems. The children are enjoying exploring building larger numbers with materials.

Literacy

The children are being taught to select “good fit books” that are appropriate for their reading level to practice at quiet reading time.

PHE

In PHE this week, the SK students have been working on balancing. They balanced in interesting shapes, a high balance or a low balance. They were challenged to balance on different body parts and to balance with 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 body parts touching the ground.

French

In French, the students were introduced this week to a new play, Boucles d’or et les trois ours (Goldilocks and The Three Bears). The students will be working on this play until the end of the school year.

Art

This week in Art, the SKs got to splatter paint! They had so much fun picking colours and letting the paint drip onto their board. They even used cinnamon paint to add smell to their abstract art piece.

Music

In Music, the SKs were really excited to present their songs on the senses at the Learning Celebration and also to show you what a Boomwhacker is and how they have been using them in class.

Attendance Reminder

A gentle reminder that all student absences should be emailed to 1639attendance@yorkschool.com
As well, if your child arrives late, please have them sign in with Ms. Kate or reception.

Please continue to pack appropriately for the weather- splash pants, mitts etc. as the temperature is still not consistently warm. We also need extra clothes at school- socks, pants and underwear.
