SK - January 26 /2018

Dear Junior School Parents,

Thank you to all the families that joined us for our parent feedback meetings over the past week. We received lots of great feedback on what we are doing well and suggestions for areas where we can do even better.

For those parents that were unable to join us, we would like to offer you an opportunity to add your voices. During the meetings we asked for feedback through the following "compass points" lenses:

N - what information do you Need to know
S - what Support do you need? From whom?
E - what Excites you about the Junior School?
W - what are you Worried about?

If you would like to provide your feedback, please send it to Kate Boynton at  (JS Admin Assistant) an email with the NSEW headline by Wednesday, January 31st.

We look forward to sharing the feedback from all parents in the FLASH next week and scheduling a meeting for all Junior School parents to follow up with next steps.

Thank you for being partners in your children's education.

Valerie and Struan

Shapes, shapes, shapes! This week the students started their new Geometry unit. They have inquired into various two and three-dimensional shapes by building, manipulating, drawing and exploring them in centres and together as a group.

In the Unit of Inquiry, students created a collage made up of various examples of creativity found in magazines and books. We discussed how one thing may be beautiful to one person and not from another’s perspective.

In French, the students have started a new play, Boucles d’or et les trois ours. It is Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

In PSE classes this term, we will focus on self-regulation. Using the tool of a speedometer as a visual and the phrase, “How is my engine running?” we will explore the different states of our body - too slow, too fast and just right. We will then explore different ways of changing from one engine state to another, using mindful breathing, exercise, and drawing.

Looking Ahead

As Mrs. Morgan goes on maternity leave, please ensure any emails or communications are sent to Mr. Pascal at to ensure any questions or concerns can be addressed promptly.

We are looking for parent support for our Great Canadian Outdoor Day. Please email either Julie or Pascal if you are able to help out on the afternoon of February 15. We will be going skating and would love for you to join us on the ice if possible to help your child skate. The teachers and children will be going to the rink by school bus and then returning to school to enjoy hot chocolate and a treat in the cafeteria. Please note that in order to go on the ice, skates and a helmet are mandatory. Let us know if you will be able to join us, so that we can properly plan for this outing. If your child does not have skates or a helmet, they will still attend and watch from the side of the rink.

With the ever-changing weather it is a great idea to pack extra socks for wet feet!

India - Global Pathways School Donation Drive

This week we will be kick starting our India donation drive (clothes and toys). Bins will be placed by fireplace in the Gathering Place for donation drop off. Please take a look at our "wish list" link below. This list will also be posted in each classroom and communicated in the FLASH for the next few weeks.

Great Canadian Skating Afternoon

The JK- grade 2 classes will be going on a trip to Ramsden Park on Thursday, February 15th for our annual skating afternoon. As well, your child must have the appropriate winter clothing,  such as snow pants, hats and mittens.
