Parent Compass Points Feedback Meetings
Thank you for continuing the home-school partnership over the past week as part of the parent/teacher interviews and student-centred conferences. We received so much positive feedback about the process and about our amazing teachers. We also talked to students about their learning, their growth and how they took control of their learning. So cool!
In our January 26th FLASH, we shared the Compass Points feedback from our parent coffee meetings. Now that conferences are finished, we would like to invite parents to attend follow up coffee meetings on either: Monday Feb. 26th or Tuesday March 6th at 8:30am in the Junior School Cafeteria. Both meetings will cover the same content and are geared towards any interested Junior School parents. For parents who can't attend either coffee morning, we will include a FLASH summary article the week before the March Break.
We hope you are able to attend.
Val and Struan
Thank you for attending our Parent-Teacher conferences. We enjoyed meeting with you and talking about your child’s learning journey.
The children had a wonderful time celebrating Wellness Week and all of the different themes. Our Great Canadian Outdoor Day was a great success. Thank you to the parent volunteers who generously gave their time to help out.
The SKs are continuing to explore different activities having to do with creative expression. We have collaborated in small groups to build a setting and along with made up characters - the children are having a blast making up their stories together.
In Math, we are enjoying the exploration of 3D shapes and their attributes. We have been discovering how different shapes can move based on their attributes. Here are some terms that we have been using: faces, vertex(vertices), roll, slide, and stack.
This week in Art, the SKs experimented with one more abstract art technique. They pulled yarn covered in black paint through folded paper and created beautiful abstract lines and shapes.
In French, we have been practicing our play, Boucles d’or et les trois ours. The students have also been learning about the home in French.
We are going to be building with real objects that are 3-D shapes next week. If you could start bringing in disposable materials in such shapes as cylinders, cubes, rectangular prisms, pyramids, spheres, and/or cones, that would be wonderful.
India - Global Pathways School Donation Drive
We have kicked started our India donation drive (clothes and toys). Bins have been placed by fireplace in the Gathering Place for donation drop off. Please take a look at our "wish list" link below. This list will also be posted in each classroom and communicated in the FLASH for the next few weeks.
Junior School Pancake Breakfast
We are thrilled to announced that all four sittings are full. We look forward to seeing you on February 22nd and 23rd.
Please make sure to check The York School’s full school calendar regularly for updates, locations and times.
