SK - November 30 / 2018

We have had an exciting week in SK! The children did a wonderful job sharing their All About Me bag items. We learned so much about each other from the items that they brought and everyone did a great job explaining the reasons for their choices. We have been doing an ongoing activity where we look at a picture of a child with a particular facial expression and do “Look, See and Think”. We look at the picture to determine factual information like hair colour or tears, see the expression e.g. sadness and then discuss what may have occurred to cause the child to feel that way. We are building our vocabulary by learning many more words to describe emotions and feelings.

In Math, we are going to be looking at the various aspects of measurement. The children will be learning terms such as, length, shortest, longest, tallest, heavier, lighter, amounts, empty, full, and height. We will be estimating, comparing and ordering objects by length, height and mass using non-standard units. We will also look at sequencing events, characteristics of clocks and the value of coins.

We are continuing lowercase letter formation, and are encouraging the children to make the move to using mostly those letters as they learn them. We drew and wrote about our All About Me bag items in our journal.

In Music, the SKs listened to the Waltz of the Snowflakes and the March from The Nutcracker. We then marched and galloped used a huge elastic band (similar to a huge hair scrunchie) and played a movement game. Students are doing a fantastic job learning all the moves for our Diwali dance, Joy.

In French, the students have been practising their play, La petite poule rouge, in class. They should be filmed performing their play in the next few weeks.

Next Friday (Dec. 7th) is a Friday B - SKB has gym.

Please make sure to check The York School’s full school calendar regularly for updates, locations and times.
