SK - December 7 / 2018

HIGHLIGHTS

Literacy

The SKs have been adding to our Learner Profile Attribute posters with books we have read, All About Me bag contents, and anything else they can think of. The posters are starting to take shape, and they LOVE contributing to them. In case you were wondering, the ten attributes are:

  • open-minded

  • caring

  • principled

  • communicators

  • thinkers

  • knowledgeable

  • inquirers

  • balanced

  • risk-takers

  • reflective

Math

In Math, we set-up a whole class provocation where the SKs had a chance to explore all of the materials and tools we have in our Measurement unit. They had a great time showing us what they already knew, and we also thought of questions we wanted answered!

French

In French, the SK students have been practising their play, La petite poule rouge. The children will be filmed next week performing the play. The video of the play will be shared with you in the next few weeks.

Art

In Art class, the Senior Kindergarten students have been busy collaging the ten learner profile attributes, in addition to creating a co-constructed alphabet of upper and lower case letters for our classrooms. Over the coming days, we will be working on a new self-portrait that is tied to how the students see themselves as as learners.

Music

In Music, the SKs continue to listen to parts of The Nutcracker Ballet and move as they feel the music. Next week, they will begin watching the ballet in class and will watch how the choreographer interpreted the music. The SKs are working hard memorizing all of the lyrics for the Harmony Concert.

REMINDERS

We’re glad to see that the SKs are enjoying the home reading program. We have told them that it is their responsibility to bring the bag back to school, and to take it out of their bags for us to exchange their books. Please feel free to keep them as long as you wish and return them when you need new ones.

Next week is an A week. SKAs will have PHE (gym) on the Friday!

HELLO WINTER!

We all love winter play outdoors! And, as the Norwegians say: “There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes”.

So with that in mind, please be reminded for outdoor recess during the winter weather students in JK, SK and Grades 1 - 3 are expected to have and wear a coat, snow pants, hats, mittens and boots to keep them both warm and dry from the time of the first snowfall or as of December 1, whichever comes first. This is for all outdoor recess play times.

IMPORTANT DATES

Please make sure to check The York School’s full school calendar regularly for updates, locations and times.
