SK - December 14 / 2018

Integrating our Language/French/Drama/Music Units, our talented students have been working on a play La petite poule rouge (The Lttle Red Hen). Anyone in the York Community prepared for some cuteness overload can watch a video of the play by clicking the image below.

Our December book is “Click, Clack, Moo Cows that Type” for the Learner Profile attribute of communicators. We have had fun reading that book, along with many other of Miss Sara’s greatest pick to demonstrate the many ways we communicate. We had fun role playing what non-verbal communication looks like in terms of facial expressions and body language. The children were very interested in American sign language.

The children have been enjoying measuring their heights with a partner and using non-standard units of measure. They did a great job tracing and measuring their feet also.

The SKs learned about area and had fun exploring the area of items around the classroom.

We traced our bodies and have been using picture books to help us understand the Learner Profile attributes. They are choosing an appropriate spot to place the word on their body, and drawing pictures to demonstrate when they were embodying the trait e.g. thinker by their brain, or caring by their heart.

In Art class this week, students explored the properties of white low-fire clay, forming, rolling, and manipulating it into seasonal pieces that will be fired, glazed, and displayed.

In Music, the SKs continue rehearsing for the Harmony Concert on December 21st. They have memorized most the songs and dances and are looking forward to performing next week! We would like students to wear their long-sleeved green sweater with the white shirt for the concert. If you don’t have a sweater, the green cardigan or the long-sleeved green polo shirt will also work.

In French, the students were filmed performing their play, La poule petite rouge. Watch the video above!

We have noticed that there been a lot of toys coming into the school. We tell the children that no toys are allowed at school, as they are very distracting, sometimes get lost or broken, and other children want to play with them which causes problems.

On a similar note, decorative headbands and they are not part of our uniform. They are being shared and played with at inappropriate times. We kindly ask you to stick to the York School uniform headband.

Next week is an B week; however, the SKBs will not be having gym due to the Harmony Concert. Please send the SKs to school in their winter uniforms.

Next week we will all enjoy a full week of “spirit week” activities. Please be sure to look at the daily schedule that is planned for the week. Every day will be a bit different.
