We had an amazing week in SK!
First we need to thank Andrea’s parents Sal and Pina, for our amazing pizza lunch from Capocaccia on Monday. Our dramatic play restaurant came to real life! The children practiced their writing by sending thank-you notes home!
On Thursday, we welcomed a new student, Eva Paise! She has joined Ms Julie’s class and the children were delighted to finally meet her!
The children loved exploring materials related to our new unit! They explored items such as shaving cream, sponges, scented candles, scrub pads, braille books and spices to name a few. They wondered, “Are you going to teach us how to shave?”... and finally came to the conclusion that we would be exploring, How the World Works, through the lens of the five senses.
We began with sight, and learned the parts of our eyes, how to protect them, and devices we can use if we encounter vision problems. The children labeled an eye and wrote their favourite facts.
In Math, we are looking at sequencing and timing of events as well as continuing to practice telling time to the hour and half hour.
We did our weekly journal entries, and the children enjoyed writing their own stories (inspired by our author visit last week!). We also learned a new poem.
In French, we have started to speak about the five senses. The students were introduced to a song about the senses called Les cinq sens. Listen along here: Les cinq sens
In Music, the SKs continued practicing their Senses song and practiced new lyrics about the senses to the melody of Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star. The SKs are listening to the different sounds on the Boomwhackers (different lengths of coloured plastic tubes).

We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on the morning of February 14th. Students do not have to exchange cards but if they do, we ask that they include everyone in their class. See class lists below.
We are looking forward to sharing your child’s progress at our upcoming parent/teacher interviews! The first set are on Jan 31st, followed by another set on Feb 5th. Please remember that these are early dismissal days and, if needed, childcare will be provided
Our school-wide Wellness Week is coming up! Please see the poster below for each days details.
***Last week, the calendar below stated that we have Student-Centred Interviews upcoming; however, the JKs and SKs have Parent-Teacher Interviews. The Student-Centred Interviews are only for Grades 1-5.***
