Message from Senior School Student Council Co-Chairs Harrison Solish and Carolyn Levitt

Dear York School Community,

Our names are Harrison and Carolyn, and we are the Chairs of the Senior School Student Council. As we head off on our December break, we thought that we would include a message on behalf of the students.

We’re off to a great start this year in the Senior School! As the student body and teachers have adjusted to our new building, the student council has launched its new leadership program. This year we’ve remodelled Student Council to be more cohesive and inclusive, allowing us to improve Student Life throughout all realms of our community. It would be an understatement to say that we have had a busy start to the year. In fact, neither of us can remember the last time we had a free lunch! Just kidding—we sometimes get 5 minutes free at the end.

However, our rushed lunches have been worth every minute. The Senior School Student Council has accomplished more than we thought would be possible in our biweekly meetings. We’ve included a list of some highlights below. Without the help of every member of the Council and all the suggestions from the student body, none of these would be possible.

Some of our Council highlights so far:

  • First day of school welcome!
  • New ‘House Families’ initiative
  • Fun new House challenges
  • Four-corner dodgeball
  • Minigames
  • Cheer-offs/making new cheers
  • Halloween fashion show
  • Distracted driving (positive ticketing) campaign
  • GLOW Fall dance
  • Spirit Week

On behalf of both of us and the entire Senior School Student Council, we hope that you all have a fantastic break. Whether you are roasting in the sun ‘forgetting’ to put on sunscreen, or shivering because you should have worn an extra layer, enjoy your families, friends, and the break from school. We have so much more planned for the rest of the school year and look forward to what is to come!

See you in the new year,

Carolyn and Harrison
