A well-balanced education includes, among many components, experience in the arts. Music education has the ability to foster communication and language development. Music is a language itself. Any parent who has watched their child learn to play an instrument for the first time or can recall their own music education may remember the multifaceted components of reading notes, understanding dynamic and tempo marks, and ultimately producing a sound that can be communicated in a variety of ways.

At The York School, music is an important component of a well-balanced education in all three school divisions. Students are not only required to study and learn music up to Grade 9 but many participate in a variety of enrichment music groups at the school and beyond. One such enrichment group is  participation in the annual Conference of Independent Schools of Music Festival (CISMF). The festival draws 47 Ontario schools in a collaborative celebration of music. Our York School students join other Ontario Independent Schools in an ensemble where several rehearsals are facilitated by a music educator. Each spring, the CISMF is staged at Roy Thomson Hall. This February, auditions took place and selections were made from The York School to include a total of 65 students from all three divisions; Junior, Middle and Senior schools. Our students will participate in either choir, concert or jazz bands and communicate in the language they enjoy. Congratulations to our students for representing The York School and to our faculty for fostering a love of music and a well-balanced education.

The next Customer Service Day for uniform exchanges and or returns will be Thursday, April 20th, 2018. This will take place at the Junior School from 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. on the basement level. All uniform items are purchased online with our supplier Top Marks. Please go to their website www.topmarks.ca enter our school code YOR01, you then set up an account for your child with a form of payment and proceed to order. Sizing charts are also available online to assist you with proper sizing to order.
