Message from Conor Jones, Head of School

It was a week in which many students ‘took on the world’ at The York School.

One of our debaters, Ryan Cho, has qualified for the World Debating Championship in South Africa.

One of our student-actors, Saara Chaudry, won an Actra award this week for her voice-over in the animated film, The Breadwinner, directed by Angelina Jolie. On CBC Radio, Saara mentioned first reading the book at The York School and gave a shout out to our Junior School librarian.

Two York School swimmers, Sean Neuman and Michael Sava, competed at the OFSAA Swim Championship in Windsor, cheered on by many watching on the big screens at 1320 Yonge.

The York School hosts a March Madness final four basketball tournament this weekend featuring our own Junior Varsity and Varsity basketball teams.

In the world of back and forth travel, students left today for a Model UN experience in NYC; Music students have just returned from Vienna, Austria; Students leave this week for the first of two trips to India to volunteer at Global Pathways School in Chettipalayam India; and IB Film students have just returned from a trip to Hollywood.

At the Conference of Independent Schools Design competition involving 33 other schools. York Students won first prize by designing an app that translates all TTC signage/announcements from English to other languages. The students are in Grade 6 and 8.

On Tuesday in the Gym the Middle & Senior Students used their House assembly time to play Quiddich. That’s right - Quiddich.

It’s been a busy week around here!

York Shop Update

On June 22nd this year, we will close The York Shop at both our Junior School and Senior School Campuses. Ginny Bates, our York Shop Manager for 17 years, will also be retiring at the end of this year.

Our school uniforms will continue to be supplied by TopMarks. Having transitioned to an online system two years ago, we anticipate that the closure of The York Shop will be a smooth one for our parent community.  All orders will continue to be processed online, including returns, as is the current practice.  We will share any updates on our uniform requirements and ordering procedures in advance of the upcoming school year.

We thank Ginny for her work over the years assisting parents and students with York uniforms and supplies.
