WELCOME - NEW SEASON, NEW ROUTINES
Dear York School Community,
This morning many new and returning parents came together at the York Parents’ Association (YPA) Coffee Connects. Yes there was coffee, and yes there was a juice bar - special for this opening event - but more importantly there was a sense of community. The York School first and foremost looks to support the needs of our children as we fulfil our mission (to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who are engaged citizens of the world) and so the YPA support of all School parents is vital to the success of our community.
The Leadership Team of The York School have been focussing on leading through relationships this year. As the Principal’s mentioned this morning, school is all about relationships. We know that children need to be connected to friends and teachers to do well and be happy. The same applies to the parent community. As Scott Rattee noted when speaking of his experience as a class parent, the relationships he has formed with other parents have been meaningful and have an effect on the overall culture of the school and ultimately of our childrens' experience.
On behalf of the school, a sincere thank you to Jennifer and Cindi and the entire YPA Executive for their leadership; to the class parents for their energy, guidance and support in those key roles; to the York International Parents committee (YIP) for their critical support of families new to Toronto. Thank you to the many volunteers, current and future, who make our events shine.
If you were unable to attend this morning, did not get a chance to ask a question or sign up for an event, you can always reach the YPA at firstname.lastname@example.org for a personal response.
Wishing everyone a great weekend to regroup after our first week back. Shanah Tovah to all celebrating Rosh Hashanah in the next few days.
Head of School & proud member of the YPA.
Global Pathways India Trip - Carwash for a Cause September 15
Every year during March break, a group of grade 11 students travel to Chettipalayam, a small town in India, to volunteer at GPS (Global Pathways School), and experience India’s rich culture. In addition to volunteering, the trip conducts various fundraising events in hopes to raise money towards a specific cause at GPS. This year, the trip is focusing on access to technology, like computers, iPads and printers, resulting in a more enriched education.
The first of these fundraisers is The York School annual India car wash, to be held from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Saturday September 15. Save the date! The car wash will be located at the back parking lot of The Junior School, at 1639 Yonge Street. This event will be pay what you can, so every donation helps!
Come out, get your car washed, and show your support for our dedicated students and Global Pathways School! We look forward to seeing you there!
Terry Fox Run - Friday Sept 21
With the reservoir under construction, The York School Terry Fox Run will be a whole school event with a new route!
We will be running up to the Junior School with our students and meeting the little ones before heading through the cemetery to the Beltline.
Stay tuned for more details!
Attention All Athletes,
This is going to be a great year. For our school to make the 'Jump' we need our athletes to train as high performance athletes. Take a look at our athlete institute which begins September 15th with our first ever ‘athlete combine’. This is an opportunity to work with Strength and Conditioning Coach Reid Hall and go through some athletic testing. On top of this opportunity, we are bringing in NBA Skills Coach David Nurse for four weekends and Canadian Beach Volleyball Olympian Martin Reader. Please fill out the form and let's be our best selves.
Our annual TYS @ TFC game is being held on Sunday, October 28th at BMO Field. The FC will take on the Atlanta United at 4:30pm. Tickets are $68 each, with a maximum order of 5. We have limited availability so order now by clicking here.
