‘SLEEP IS SO OVER RATED & JUNK FOOD FUELS THE BRAIN’
Dear York School Community,
As Co-Chairs of the Student Council, we have had the amazing opportunity to help guide the efforts of the York School community to create this year’s abundance of spirit events. However, we recognize none of these events would have been as fun, or in many cases even possible, without everyone’s engagement. So on behalf of the student body, we’d like to thank you all for the part you have played in making this year a success!
Just this December, it seems as though there has been something for everyone. We followed the yellow brick road to the World of Oz for this year’s school play, saw our Senior Boys Basketball team travel the province, and got to reach new heights at the CN-Tower and AGO. Not only this, but we got to see one of the most successful clothing drives in York School history with over 1,600 articles of clothing donated to the New Circles Clothing Drive to help new Canadians find comfort in our harsh Canadian winters. Lastly, we got to end our first term on a ‘high note’ with the 2018 Harmony Concert before finally leaving for the break.
Now that everyone’s back, we hope you all had a refreshing holiday full of rest and relaxation. It is time again for set goals for the upcoming year. York School Students, here are your Student Council Co-Chairs new year's resolutions & tips:
Get More Sleep- We can honestly say as Co-Chairs, that there are times when we feel as though there aren’t enough hours in the day. Juggling between IB academic expectations, student leadership and student athletes can be challenging. That being said, we both have learned that it is difficult to enjoy everything you’re doing if you are sleep deprived.Submitting schoolwork on time is important, but we know from experience that the last paragraph you want to try to write after midnight is never our best work.
It’s Okay to Take A Break- We have both learned in this Grade 12 year, that there is a lot of benefit to taking a break. Whether it is reading a book just for fun, playing sports, taking a walk or spending time with friends, sometimes a break is exactly what you need when you feel overwhelmed. The IB Diploma Programme, and school work in general, can be difficult to manage, but if you take some time for yourself, it is so much more enjoyable and manageable.
Don’t Forget to Eat- In the madness of getting from place to place or trying to cram in everything you need to get done, it is easy to focus on your to-do list. However, as important as it is to get your work done, it is going to be significantly harder if you are running on empty. It is important for everyone to remember to sit down and eat some good food so you are all fuelled up for the tasks that lie ahead.
We want to wish everyone the best of luck in meeting their own New year's resolutions! Also to those students writing their exams at the end of January, we wish you all the best! Here’s to the beginning of what looks to be a superb 2019!

SAVE THE DATE - JUNIOR SCHOOL RECESS! JANUARY 25
Dear York School Community,
Two weeks ago we announced that - through the great work of The Playground Committee - we had chosen IBI as our design partner to help us build the new Junior School Playground.
In that note we promised to follow up with a note inviting you to join us for RECESS! where we would share design ideas and seek input.
The date for RECESS! is January 25 at the Junior School from 8:45 - 10:00.
