MESSAGE FROM STRUAN ROBERTSON, HEAD OF SCHOOL

Sparking Success in Chemistry

Nine of our Grade 11 chemistry club members (Audrey, Siyuan, Ryan, Max, Niv, Ben, Minh, Sebastian and Thure) participated in the Waterloo Avogadro Chemistry Competition in May. Siyuan Chen, who is the leader of our chemistry club, ranked in the top 5% worldwide and top 3% in Toronto. This contest is specifically designed for Grade 11 students and tests conceptual understanding, logical thinking and problem-solving skills through a series of multiple-choice questions, and is recognized for its academic rigor.

Siyuan also participated in the Canadian Chemistry Competition (CCC) and Canadian Chemistry Olympiad (CCO), organized by the Chemical Institute of Canada, and received a Special Merit Award for his excellent performance. This 5 hour written exam is not necessarily designed for Grade 11 students. It required hours of commitment outside of class for independent learning, and the content knowledge required for this contest is beyond the scope of the DP Chemistry program. He basically learned Grade 12 content—and university level material—on his own. Congratulations!

Athletics

What a next level athletic year! We have so much to be proud of and it is amazing to see our school display excellence in academics, school life and athletics. #Balance

I would like to take a moment to say thank you to our community, coaches and athletes who have taken this program to new heights. #pride

Next year, we will continue to push this program forward. We will continue with our tradition of beginning the year with a fun-filled weekend with David Nurse. We highly encourage every hooper in our Junior, Middle and Senior School to attend a session.
