SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE OF SUMMER!
Dear York School community,
A few weeks ago I attended the Grad Retreat at Camp New Moon. After dinner one evening, I listened to the grads share the impact of The York School on their lives.
Themes consistently emerged; the incredibly welcoming atmosphere, the amazing teachers and staff, the opportunities for co-curriculars, the friendships, the chance to be yourself, the feeling of fitting in, the feeling of safety, the celebration of learning…… it was an incredible experience to really hear what our kids say about their school - unfiltered.
Reflecting on what our grads had to share reminded me yet again that as a York School community, we have much for which to be thankful. We have wonderful students who have developed a love for life long learning. We have amazing teachers and staff who are gifted at creating a nurturing and challenging learning environment. And we have a supportive parent community who are dedicated to the school.
Playing, Filming, Flying. I believe these snapshots capture these sentiments perfectly.
Finally - students - I will remind you of my message from the closing ceremonies earlier today. As you head off on your summer break, whether you are traveling, attending a summer camp or working in the city, I have three asks of you (and your parents):
Take a break from your screens
Get outside as much as possible
Read lots of books
Best wishes to the whole York community for a safe and relaxing summer. We look forward to welcoming all of our returning and new families on September!

2019/2020 YORK SCHOOL ATHLETICS
2018-2019 has been another outstanding athletic year at The York School! From hosting a CAIS National Tournament to a 75% whole school athletic participation rate to one of our student-athletes making Team Canada’s Women’s Volleyball Team; The York School continues to celebrate itself as an up and coming programme in CISAA/CAIS.
Practices for the Middle/Senior school begin on the afternoon of the first day of school in September while Junior School Athletics begin September 9th. Gladiator Athletics continues to develop programmes that promote community and wellness, please take a look at our first community event (TFC) and sign up today. Also, take a look at our Strength and Conditioning which is loaded with student and parent initiatives.
Finally, take a looking at our High-Performance Basketball and Volleyball Programmes. We are lucky to have some amazing high-profile coaches for our athletes. We will run three volleyball and three basketball sessions in 2019-2020. The expectation is that all Gladiator Basketball and Volleyball athletes participate in 2 of the 3 sessions (we want all 3 for maximum impact) so sign up now.
Have an awesome and active summer.
PURCHASE A MANDATORY HOUSE SHIRT for September
This year we made a commitment to improving our house spirit at the Middle & Senior School by creating retro house shirts to be worn at all house events. Come September it is required as part of the uniform to own a school-sanctioned house shirt for all House Swag Casual Days. Students are still encouraged to wear any other house coloured accessories to show their spirit.
