STUDENT LIFE AND BELONGING
CONGRATULATIONS - INCITE Writing Contest
We are thrilled to congratulate Grade 10 student Eloise B. on earning second place in the INCITE Student Writing Competition! Her piece, “Will You Hear Me?” explores the struggles women face in their fight to be heard. Through powerful verse, Eloise weaves together history and modern realities, giving voice to generations of women who have been silenced or ignored. Congratulations on this fabulous accomplishment, Eloise!
English Speaking Union's International Public Speaking Competition
Over the break we learned that Zach W. has qualified to be Canada's sole representative in the English Speaking Union's International Public Speaking Competition. He will engage in a week of competition and activities with students from over 50 countries. In addition, he will get to meet politicians and other leaders and be granted exclusive access to significant places in and around London, England.
STUDENT LEADERSHIP UPDATE - CHAIR ELECTIONS WEDNESDAY
Students and staff are looking forward to electing our Chair’s of Student Leadership next Wednesday during our spirit assembly.
Over the past two weeks, The York community has had many opportunities to become informed voters before the speeches and vote. As this is the highest leadership position offered at York, and these two graduating students are instrumental in leveraging student voice and shaping our school’s culture, we are excited to hear what each Candidate will propose for our future.
The results of the election will be shared on Friday, April 4.
Following the Chair election, our student leadership application process will continue with Director and Co-ordinator interviews for grade 10 and 11 students, Grade Representative elections and leadership committee appointments. Students will find out about their placements for the 2025 - 2026 school year on Thursday, April 17.

PRIDE WEEK 2025
The Belonging and Outreach student leadership committee are excited to mirror Pride TO’s June theme of: ALL IN as this year’s focus for The York School.
Students and staff can look forward to a week of learning about what it means to be “All In” as an ally and how we can take action to be a more inclusive, indivisible, inviting and inspired community.
Activities for the week will include an assembly and workshops with the Canvas organization that focus on fostering cultures of belonging and inclusion, lunchtime pride activities like rainbow cookie decorating, friendship bracelet making and guess the LGBTQSIA+ artist/song, as well as a community mural with pledges for how we will be allies in action!
