ATHLETICS

Wow, what a term. Let’s start by congratulating our Varsity Boys Soccer team for winning our first CISAA high school championship in 8 years. This group was all in. Super proud! This term is one to celebrate. 4 CISAA Championships, 3 OFSAA appearances and 65% of our student body participating in sport.

Our winter season is off and running and, as we celebrate these championships, we also need to celebrate the small wins in our program. The little things, like having 30 kids at various tryouts wanting to be part of our multiple teams. We have come a long way in my 20 years at York, from a 16 team school (total) to where we are today with 52 teams.

We move into the winter with volleyball, basketball, curling, swimming and skiing. Let’s go!

Our first celebration of the winter - our Varsity Boys Basketball team has been invited to compete against one of Ontario’s top 3 basketball schools, Saltfleet District High School in Stoney Creek, Ontario.

Presented by Dr. Zia Lakdawalla

Parents play a critical role in a child's ability to regulate emotions. Grounded in evidence-based theory and skills, this talk will provide parents with a framework for better understanding their child's emotions and how to better support them. We will review common challenges parents face in managing their child's big emotions, and the tips and strategies that are most effective for building emotion regulation skills and resilience.

This webinar will be presented with a Junior School focus but all parents are welcomed to attend.

YORK SCARES HUNGER FOOD DRIVE

Thank you to our community for everyone’s generosity and support of our annual York Scares Hunger Food Drive for the Daily Bread Food Bank and the Children’s Breakfast Clubs Charity, the latter of which serves hot meals to GTA elementary students experiencing food insecurity.

As a school, we donated 1372 items! With food bank visits at a record-breaking high in Toronto in the past 3 months, we know that our donations will help alleviate some of the pressure food banks are facing in the fight against hunger in our city.
