ATHLETICS
Happy Halloween! You know what is truly scary?...The TYS Athletic program which continues to establish itself as a power in CISAA.
Last week our U10 to U14 teams began their playoff journeys. Congratulations to our U12 Girls Basketball team that brought home a CISAA championship. Also, good luck to our U14 Boys Soccer team that will host the CISAA Championships at Downsview Park on Friday, November 1. Good luck to our U14 Boys Volleyball team that has qualified for the “Final Four” Friday at Country Day.
We had some awesome success on the trails at the CISAA Championships. Congrats to Lesley S (7th), Grant S (5th) and Olivia S (3rd) for their finishes in the championships. Once again, we congratulate our Junior Varsity Girls team who brought home a CISAA Championship (Margo C, Maddie S, Zoe W, Juliet D, Selma N, Zoe L) and will represent CISAA at the Provincial Championships (OFSAA) in Ottawa.
A little history here. Up until 2020, TYS had only attended 2 OFSAA’s (Curling 2005 and Track and Field 2015). Since 2020, TYS has qualified for 13 OFSAA championships - we had the individual winner in swimming (M. Sava) and skiing (C. Wiseman) and a bronze medal in Badminton (Georgia B). Varsity Boys Basketball looks to qualify for their 4th straight OFSAA this year and Varsity Girls Volleyball looks to return for a 2nd straight year.
We truly have become a consistent power in recent years. We are officially on the athletic map and should be proud.
Good luck to our Varsity Flag Football and Varsity Boys Soccer team who have eyes on a championship this week!
You know what else is amazing about our program? Our community. We have our annual “Raptor Night” coming up in February - come and watch the Raptors take on the LA Clippers or the Miami Heat. Great opportunity to come together and enjoy some sport in the city.
Winter sports start next week!

STUDENT LIFE AND BELONGING
As a caring community, we received this email of gratitude from Campfire Circle thanking us for our ongoing partnership and sharing the impact that our fundraising has had on young people and their families facing childhood cancer. Last Spring, for our annual Service As Action Week we launched a JK-Grade 12 fundraising campaign for Campfire Circle. With the generosity of our community, we raised $5720.95, surpassing our goal of sending a child with cancer or severe illness to camp for 2 weeks this summer! Additional funds went towards supporting Campfire Circle’s in-hospital programs throughout the year.
Dear The York School,
At Campfire Circle, we’re dedicated to providing life-changing firsts: the first time being away from parents; the first time getting chemotherapy outside of the hospital; the first time making friends who truly understand the challenges of a serious childhood illness.
This summer, in addition to serving more oncology campers than ever, we offered a week of camp to children with heart disease and serious blood disorders—many of whom experienced the benefits of camp for the very first time. These moments of “firsts”—from canoeing to climbing our accessible high ropes course—are not just milestones; they are life-changing experiences that build confidence, courage, and resilience. And they were made possible by donors like you.
In this year’s report, we’re also excited to share findings about our In-Hospital Programs from a new research collaboration with Trent University, showcasing how our impact is not only visible; it’s measurable.
On behalf of everyone at Campfire Circle, I want to extend our deepest gratitude to you, who help bring our mission to life every day. Together, we are truly providing healing through happiness.
With gratitude,
Alex Robertson
CEO, Campfire Circle
Building Emotional Regulation Skills in Your Child
Presented by Dr. Zia Lakdawalla
Parents play a critical role in a child's ability to regulate emotions. Grounded in evidence-based theory and skills, this talk will provide parents with a framework for better understanding their child's emotions and how to better support them. We will review common challenges parents face in managing their child's big emotions, and the tips and strategies that are most effective for building emotion regulation skills and resilience.
This webinar will be presented with a Junior School focus but all parents are welcomed to attend.
