MESSAGE FROM STRUAN ROBERTSON, HEAD OF SCHOOL

Dear York School Community,

  • Had a fun time this week at camp with the Grade 7s & 8s.

  • Curriculum Nights are upcoming next week: Middle/Senior School is on Tuesday, September 26th and Junior School is on Thursday, September 28th. 

  • The York School will be honouring National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Friday, September 29th.

  • Athletic Commons is coming along beautifully and hopefully it will be ready next week.

  • As Yom Kippur begins on Sunday - I would like to take a moment to wish all of our Jewish families an easy fast and a day of reflection with family and loved ones.

THE YORK SCHOOL BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING UPDATE

The Board of Directors had its first meeting of the 2023-24 school year last night. The Board welcomed new members and expressed its gratitude to those members leaving the Board. The Board also discussed the School’s new strategic plan which will be shared with the York community at the end of October.

Health & Safety

Health reminders for Back to School

  • Please have your child stay home if they are sick.

  • They may return to school if they have been fever free for 24 hours and their symptoms have been improving for 24 hours.

  • If they test positive for covid, they should remain home until they are fever free for 24 hours and their symptoms are improving/mostly gone. They should wear a mask for 10 days from when their symptoms began.

  • Please take a moment to look at the guidelines posted from Toronto Public Health. Bookmark the guidelines for easy reference.

Head’s and Principals’ Breakfast for New Families at York

We are excited to host new families in all divisions at the upcoming Head’s and Principals’ Breakfasts!

The Middle and Senior School Breakfast will take place on Tuesday, October 3 at 8 a.m.
The Junior School Breakfast will take place on Wednesday, October 4 at 8 a.m.

ATHLETICS

TYS Athletics is in full swing. All of our teams are up and running including our new Flag Football program at the Junior and Middle School.

This week CISAA Competition Begins with our Varsity Boys Soccer Team and Junior Varsity Boys Volleyball taking on Toronto French School.

It is a special Week in Canada This Week, “National Coaches Week”. It is a week where we celebrate coaches across the country for their efforts. We want to thank all of our teacher coaches and external coaches for their commitment. Our students have a wonderful opportunity to work with some passionate community coaches at TYS.

Terry Fox Fundraising Update

Congratulations to students and families at The York School on their fundraising efforts for the Terry Fox Foundation. This year, The York School surpassed our initial goal and raised $14,210.25 between online donations and T-shirt sales. 

Thank you to all of you who joined us for the walk/run on Sept. 15th and thank you to all of our students for their spirited participation. Our first major house event of the year was definitely a success!

The York Shop

  • The York School is excited to share with our community that we are opening up a York Shop at our 1320 Yonge Street campus where students across all three divisions (Junior, Middle and Senior School) will be able to purchase black gym t-shirts for our Junior School students, gym uniforms for all Middle and Senior School Students as well as spirit wear items.

    *All purchases will be charged to Student Accounts

  • Where: 1320 Campus in the Learning Commons

    Hours: 11:30pm - 12:40pm

    Start date: September 11, 2023

    *The York Shop is not selling the official school uniform which you must purchase through our uniform provider Top Marks (topmarks.ca)

  • Please note: Students in Grades 6-12 are able to purchase items independently on their student account. Students in our Junior School Grades JK-Grade 5 require parents to purchase on their behalf.
