MESSAGE FROM STRUAN ROBERTSON, HEAD OF SCHOOL

Dear York School Community,

  • Thank you to everyone who came out to our MS/SS Curriculum Night earlier this week. We look forward to seeing parents tonight at the JS Curriculum Night.

  • A big thanks to our print sponsor TPH and the O’Born Family for helping us publish our Year in Review 2022/2023 which should arrive in your mailbox soon. 

  • Tomorrow we will honour National Day for Truth and Reconciliation - we will be holding divisional events and discussions, and encouraging everyone to wear an orange shirt.

  • Next week we have two Head’s and Principals’ Breakfasts for New Families, Middle/Senior School on Tuesday and Junior School on Wednesday.

  • We invite the whole community out to an exciting Homecoming game on Thursday, October 5th.

  • Friendly reminder there will be no classes on Friday, October 6th and on Monday, October 9th.

Head’s and Principals’ Breakfast for New Families at York

We are excited to host new families in all divisions at the upcoming Head’s and Principals’ Breakfasts!

The Middle and Senior School Breakfast will take place on Tuesday, October 3 at 8 am
The Junior School Breakfast will take place on Wednesday, October 4 at 8 am 

Please check your inbox for the invitation and remember to RSVP by September 28, 2023.

Homecoming 2023 - Thursday, OctOBER 5th

Students and families are invited to join us next Thursday, October 5th for our 2nd annual Homecoming celebration! 

Please remind your students to join us on the Turf for the pre-game party at 4:00pm where we will be putting on spirit wear, making signs and participating in activities to prepare for our Senior Girls’ Basketball game against De La Salle. The game will start at 4:30pm and all are invited to come out and cheer on our Gladiators!

Following, there will be an alumni reception for the classes of ‘20-’23.

ATHLETICS

Wow! What an amazing first few weeks of athletics. The David Nurse and Volleyball Combine Clinics, our competitive teams in full swing, and our Parent Bootcamp starting this Friday in Gladiator Centre.

Highlights of the week include our Junior Varsity Boys Volleyball team headed to the Seneca College Classic Tournament, our Varsity Girls Basketball is off to Ridley to participate in their Homecoming Game on Saturday and Griffin D took home first place in the U10 Boys Division at this Week’s Havercrest X-Country Meet.

Saturday September 30th, 2023 is National Day For Truth and Reconciliation. This a day for reflection and thought. “Get up in the Six” is coming back this year! This episode with Team Canada and Indigenous Volleyball Player Dallas Soonias is filled with laughs, perspective, but most importantly some advice that all of us can use on the daily!

Congratulations to students and families at The York School on their fundraising efforts for the Terry Fox Foundation. This year, The York School surpassed our initial goal and raised $14,210.25 between online donations and T-shirt sales. 

Thank you to all of you who joined us for the walk/run on September 15th and thank you to all of our students for their spirited participation. Health reminders for Back to School

  • Please have your child stay home if they are sick.

  • They may return to school if they have been fever free for 24 hours and their symptoms have been improving for 24 hours.

  • If they test positive for covid, they should remain home until they are fever free for 24 hours and their symptoms are improving/mostly gone. They should wear a mask for 10 days from when their symptoms began.

  • Please take a moment to look at the guidelines posted from Toronto Public Health. Bookmark the guidelines for easy reference.

The York Shop

  • The York Shop will be open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from October 2, 2023 to December 15, 2023 for in person shopping.

    The shop hours:
    11:30am to 12:30pm
