BEYOND YORK - April 3, 2025

Grade 11s have completed the university counselling form and are beginning to book appointments with their counsellors. They have been encouraged to start:

  • Compiling information from resources including: University Websites, University Student Blogs, University Catalogs, Viewbooks and Videos.

Jeff Selingo, Higher education author and journalist and Dr Lisa Damour have each spoken to the York community in the past couple of years. Here they are together speaking about how to talk to your children about what comes after high school. This is a free virtual event.

Getting teens to think about what’s next after high school is never easy. Even after going on campus tours, taking the SATs, and wading through all that college mail, teens and families often feel overwhelmed rather than have any sense of clarity about the future.

In a special 30-minute edition of the Next Office Hour on April 9 at 7:00pm ET / 4:00pm PT I’ll speak with teen psychologist and bestselling author Dr. Lisa Damour about how to meet teens where they are in their understanding of how to evaluate colleges.

  • Lisa Damour is the author of three New York Times bestsellers: Untangled, Under Pressure, and The Emotional Lives of Teenagers, and co-hosts the podcast Ask Lisa: The Psychology of Parenting.

  • We’ll take your questions and the chat will be open.

Reserve your spot today, even if you can’t attend live.

This event will be recorded. As long as you register in advance you’ll receive an email with the recording.

This year, our conference will be centered around UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 15: Life on Land, focusing on the role of engineering in addressing global environmental challenges. The conference will feature keynote speakers, hands-on workshops, and a case competition where students will tackle real-world problems through engineering design. Their skills will be put to the test in a final competition where they will work in teams to develop and present an innovative solution to a panel of judges.

Here’s what students can expect from SCYLC:

  • Keynote speakers – Experts in sustainability, engineering, and global development will share their knowledge on pressing environmental issues.

  • Interactive workshops – Students will develop engineering skills through hands-on activities that address global challenges, including those related to land conservation and restoration.

  • Case competition – Teams will research and present innovative solutions to real-world issues, applying their new skills and knowledge.

  • University experience – Students will have the chance to explore University of Toronto’s St. George Campus, experience student life, and connect with peers.

Tickets Information:

Event Date: Saturday - Sunday May 24-25, 2025
Location: St. George Campus, University of Toronto
Day Ticket ($75) – Access to both days of programming (Lunch provided on both days)
For schools offering the International Baccalaureate Program, the SCYLC is an incredible CAS experience, as students have the opportunity to think creatively, problem solve, and collaborate with other students. This conference is an incredible opportunity for students to dive into the world of engineering and sustainability, gain hands-on experience, and explore the intersection of innovation and global change. The Rotman Finance Lab hosts the annual Rotman International Trading Competition (RITC), a 3-day simulated market challenge featuring 50 competing universities from around the world. RITC is executed though the RIT Market Simulator and associated Decision Cases (RIT) an in-house software developed by the Rotman Finance Lab to reflect the behaviour of financial markets.

The High School Market Simulation Challenge provides exceptional high school students with an introduction to the field of finance and an opportunity to learn through simulated business scenarios. Students will participate in a morning workshop designed to introduce them to financial markets and the RIT Market Simulator platform, then in the afternoon they will have the opportunity to demonstrate their newly learned skills through a Market Simulation Challenge using the RIT Market Simulator. No prior preparation is necessary for this challenge, and all required resources will be provided before and during the competition.

Registration for the session on April 30 will open at 5:00pm ET on March 5, 2025 and be accessible through the buttons below.
