STUDENT LIFE & BELONGING

ANNUAL JUNIOR SCHOOL SHOWCASE
GrADES 1 -3 ThursDAY, March 6  | GrADES 4 & 5 FriDay, March 7
8:45 am-9:45 am

We are excited to launch our annual Junior School Showcase live on stage. We will be recording this event to share with parents.

Students are invited to sing, dance, juggle, play an instrument, tell jokes, perform magic, recite a poem, share a pet trick, or demonstrate a special athletic skill to showcase the talent in our Junior School.

Students must sign-up in order to be included in the performance.

  • Student sign-ups for this live showcase will begin on Monday, February 3 and will end on Friday, February 7.

  • The sign-up sheets will be located on the glass beside the back door on the first floor. Student are encouraged to sign up on their way out to recess.

  • Beginning on Tuesday, February 18th, during recess times, teachers will be checking in with all performers who have signed up.

We are encouraging students to perform live. A pre-recorded video may be submitted if  the special talent cannot  be performed in the gym. (ie. horseback riding, aerial silks or a pet trick) These students will still need to sign up by February 7 and do a teacher check in. They will need to submit their 30 sec-1 min talent video filmed in landscape by Thursday, February 27.

FEBRUARY IS BLACK HISTORY MONTH

The 2025 theme for Black History Month is: “Black Legacy and Leadership: Celebrating Canadian History and Uplifting Future Generations.” This year’s theme highlights the many contributions Black communities have made to Canadian society, while also focusing on building a brighter future for future generations.

  • Our Grade 5 leaders are researching the contributions of famous Black Canadians and will be sharing their findings in a bulletin board display and on our news radio broadcast.

We are also welcoming guest author Yolanda T. Marshall at our next R.A.L.Y. (Respectfully Acknowledging and Learning at York) assembly on Tuesday, February 18 to share her book My Soca Birthday Party: with Jollof Rice and Steel Pans. We are ready to dance, sing and read along!
