Junior School - June 15, 2023

A MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL VAL TURNER

Dear Junior School Parents,

The school year is quickly coming to an end marked by the last FLASH of this school year - I hope you find yourselves ready for a well-deserved, fun-filled, replenishing summer break.

We all enjoyed celebrating our Grade 5 students earlier this week - many thanks are extended to Sarah Charley and all of the teachers who contributed to and supported the production of the event. Our Grade 5 students went on to enjoy a fabulous party planned by the Grade 5 parents. We wish our Grade 5 students all the best as they transition to Middle School. The children were thrilled with the bouncy castle yesterday at recess and they all enjoyed a fabulous Fun Day in Oriole Park today many thanks to our YPA Junior School Co-chairs in conjunction with Sarah Charley and all of the class parents and parent volunteers who organized the event.

We are looking forward to our Closing Assembly on Friday morning.  Unfortunately, due to space restrictions, parents cannot be accommodated in person. The assembly will be recorded and shared with families at a later date.

We all thank you for your support of, contribution to, and partnership with all of us who have the privilege of working with your children each and every day. You have been fully engaged in enhancing the student experience for our Junior School students and we are most appreciative of your continued effort and commitment.

We wish you and your family a safe and happy summer; and, Sara Sankari, your new Junior School Principal, along with the Junior School team, look forward to welcoming you back in September.

Ordering School Uniforms

If you need to purchase school uniform items please do this by June 15, 2023.

Junior School students will be able to purchase their black York gym t-shirt from the school during the last week of August and the first two weeks of school in September (details to follow)

The York Shop

  • The York School is excited to share with our community that we are opening up a York Shop at our 1320 Yonge Street campus where students across all three divisions (Junior, Middle, and Senior School) will be able to purchase black gym t-shirts for our Junior School students, gym uniforms for all Middle and Senior School Students as well as spirit wear items.

    All purchases will be charged to Student Accounts.

    Please note: Students in Grades 6-12 are able to purchase items independently on their student account. Students in our Junior School Grades JK-Grade 5 require parents to purchase on their behalf.

    Date: Tuesday, August 29, and Wednesday, August 30, 2023

    Location: 1320 Yonge Street in the Learning Commons

    Time: 1:00 - 4:30 pm

    Time: 11:30-1:30 pm

    Location: The Learning Commons (1320 Yonge Street)

    Items available for purchase: gym uniforms, youth, and adult hoodies for all Middle and Senior School Students as well as spirit wear items

  • Junior School Pop-Up Shop

    Where: Junior School (1639 Yonge Street) in the Gathering Place

    Time: 7:30-9:00 am and 3:00-5:30 pm

    *Please note that Junior School gym t-shirts and spirit wear will be available for purchase from our York Shop throughout the month of September during lunch open hours. (11:30 - 1:30 pm)

Happy Summer from the Library!

The Junior School Library invites all students in Grades 1-5 to keep up their reading this summer by joining the Summer Reading Program. The Summer Reading Program includes Book Bingo, a Reading Log to track reading progress throughout the summer, and other creative reading-related activities. Any students who are interested may simply pick up a Summer Reading Journal from the library (or print their own) and complete any or all of the activities in the journal. There will also be three random prize raffles in September for anyone who has completed any of these activities and handed in their signed Summer Reading Journal to Ms.Larcina in September.The Summer Reading Program is not mandatory and no registration is required.
