STUDENT LIFE & BELONGING

JUNIOR SCHOOL SPRING BOOK DRIVE

Our annual JS Spring Book Drive and house challenge launches on Monday, April 29 and runs to Friday, May 10. As you do some Spring cleaning, we are asking students to look through their home libraries for books that they no longer read and are willing to donate. Please give the gift of reading to someone else!

  • All of the donated books will go to The Children’s Book Bank, a non-profit organisation that provides free books and literacy support to children in high-needs neighbourhoods in Toronto.

  • Gently used children’s books are donated and distributed, free of charge, to provide equal access to books for all children, thereby improving literacy rates and socioeconomic outcomes.

REGISTRATION FOR GRANDPALS & SPECIAL FRIENDS DAY

If you haven’t already done so, please RSVP using the grade level registration links below. We are hopeful that each student has at least one Grandpal or Special Friend to join them at their session so that nobody feels left out.

  • Due to capacity restrictions, we can accommodate two guests per student

  • All event communication will only be sent to York School parents and caretakers, so please decide who from your family will be attending and then RSVP on their behalf.

  • If you have more than one child attending York’s Junior School you will need to register for each applicable session.

SERVICE AS ACTION WEEK - Tuesday, May 21 - Thursday, May 24

On Tuesday, we enjoyed our Service As Action Assembly. We celebrated all of the different campaigns and drives we have participated in as a Junior School this year to take action and raise awareness to make a difference in the lives of others. We welcomed Hannah Stewart from Campfire Circle to launch our last fundraising initiative of the year.

During our Service as Action Week The York School will be supporting Campfire Circle (formally Camp Oochigeas) a privately funded charity that helps to support kids affected by childhood cancer and severe illness. They offer year round, community and in hospital programs, as well as an overnight summer camp.

  • Donations can be made electronically using our school fundraising page

  • We will also have our week-long COINS FOR CAMP House Challenge to collect more donations.

  • All funds raised will go to Campfire Circle to help us reach our school wide goal of $5000 to send a child to camp for two weeks.

  • There will also be a variety of camp-themed activities including a virtual campfire, an Overcoming Obstacles Course and a Camp Wear Casual Day on Wednesday, May 22.
