Grade 7 and 8 Course Selection Forms for the 2025-2026 Academic Year -
Due February 18, 2025
This week, the Grade 6 and 7 students were presented with the elective options for the 2025-2026 academic year. The presentation is available here.
2025-2026 Grade 7 elective options are: Mandarin, Drama, Coding, Spanish and Learning Strategies.
2025-2026 Grade 8 elective options are: Mandarin, Drama, Coding, Spanish, Learning Strategies and Visual Arts.
Students and parents are required to complete two elective choices by February 18, 2025.
You can access the Course Selection Form via your YorkNet account. When you log in to YorkNet, you will see this form (along with any other forms requiring completion). Only one parent needs to complete the form for your family.

If you anticipate your child may need additional support during our upcoming lockdown drill, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher.
February 12 & 13, 2025 - Virtual Student-Centred Conferences
Student-Centred Conferences are scheduled for February 12 from 1:00pm - 8:30pm and February 13 from 8:30am - 4:00pm.
On February 12th students will follow a compressed schedule and be dismissed by 11:40am.
Please note that there is no supervision or classes for students on the afternoon of February 12th and all day on February 13. There will also be no lunch service (only grab-and-go items will be available), athletic practices, or co-curricular activities.

Lunar New Year Festival - February 4
Next Tuesday, students and staff can look forward to celebrating the Year of the Snake with our lunch-hour Lunar New Year Festival!
Thanks to our Asian Student Alliance, parent volunteers and Ms Zhao’s Mandarin students for hosting interactive stations where students and staff can participate in Jianzi, Chinese yo-yo, Calligraphy, Boba tea sampling and more!
The menu in the cafeteria at lunch will also be Asian-inspired, as chosen by our student leaders.
Students and staff are encouraged to dress in red or their own cultural attire to celebrate this day.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH - FEBRUARY
Our Belonging & Outreach student leaders are looking forward to celebrating Black History Month throughout the month of February.
On Mondays, we will focus on the theme of Black Resistance throughout Canadian history on our weekly morning show and on February 19, we will welcome Britta Badour, award-winning author, poet and educator to speak at our assembly.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS - February 7
Join us on Friday, February 7 as our Varsity Girls’ Volleyball and Varsity Boys’ Basketball teams take on Malvern Collegiate!
There will also be York’s very own DJ Jonny Flow spinning tunes in between plays as well as a food truck on site. This is the Do Not Miss event of Term 2!

All Grade 6-10 parents are invited to attend our Challenge Week Virtual Parents Information Sessions in February:
The Grades 7-10 Challenge Week Virtual Parent Information Sessions will take place on Thursday, February 20 at 5:00pm.
Please note: The Grade 10 Jazz Train Virtual Parents Information Night will take place on Monday, February 10 at 5:00pmThe Grade 6 Challenge Week Virtual Parents Information Night will take place on Monday, February 24 at 5:00pm.
These Parent Information Nights will be an opportunity to learn more about the details of your child's upcoming Challenge Week excursion. The lead teacher of your child's trip will be in touch in advance to share the google meet link via email.
Middle School Dance & Games Night - Tickets on Sale Now!
On Thursday February 6, 2025 from 6:00pm-8:00pm our Student Life & Belonging Team and Middle School Student Council are excited for Middle School Dance and Games Night!
The theme is Wild West. Please feel free to dress in any clothing from your closet that allows for comfortable dancing and game playing!
There will be a photobooth, candy bar, DJ, dancing, games and more!
This is an optional after school event open to all Middle School students and requires a parental RSVP for participation. Please RSVP using this GOOGLE FORM. RSVP is due by Tuesday, February 4, 2025.
