Middle School - June 15, 2023
A MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL HELEN GIN
Dear Parents,
We made it through the 2022-2023 without any irregular school closures, and have enjoyed a more normal school year after several challenging years under the pandemic. I am proud of what our students accomplished and we will celebrate them at tomorrow’s Closing Ceremony.
This past school year, we were excited to resume athletics, fall camp, field trips, arts concerts, dances and our signature Challenge Week trip. Behind these experiences was a cheerleading squad composed of the teaching faculty who encouraged, supported, praised and sometimes cajoled students to participate in activities both in and out of the class. Our teachers have been incredibly committed to not only student learning, but also to their well-being. As well, our citizenship team has ensured that we had fun during the school year with the planning of house challenges, themed weeks and assembly events that remind us that there must be joy in learning and growing.
Thank you to the members of the YPA (York Parent’s Association) for providing us with an abundance of food treats to students and staff. Whether it was the surprise donut truck, popcorn, cotton candy, treats for teachers or the bbq lunch, it was welcomed and appreciated. Also, thank you for sponsoring the movie night, dance and games night, Halloween and Action Activity stations.
The final June report will be available to download from YorkNet during the week of June 26. An email to you will be sent alerting you to its availability. Paper copies will not be mailed out this year. A June mailing will be sent that includes an Academic Achievement Certificate for Honor Roll (79.5% -84.4%), Principal’s List (84.5%-89.4%) and Head’s List (89.5% and above).
During the last week of August, an email will be sent to notify you that your child’s timetable is ready on YorkNet for download. This will include the class placement and homeroom teacher. We will not accept any requests or changes during the summer. Please order your child’s textbooks through the Canadian School Book Exchange. The CSBE portal has been added to YorkNet enabling you to order textbooks. As well, a list of stationery supplies (for g7 and 8 students) will be made available on the school’s YorkNet site when the June Reports are posted.
The York School is excited to share with our community that we are opening up a York Shop at our 1320 Yonge Street campus where students will be able to purchase PE and spirit wear items. This shop next to the learning commons will be opened to parents on Tuesday August 29 and Wednesday August 30, 2023, from 1:00 pm- 4:30 pm. Students may make purchases with their account number from Thursday September 7, 2023-Friday September 29, 2023 inclusive, from 11:30 am-1:30 pm
Please note : The York Shop is not selling the official school uniform which you must purchase through our uniform provider Top Marks (topmarks.ca).
Lastly, thank you parents for your partnership in educating your child. Whether it was attending school events, participating in interviews, or simply reading this weekly Flash, your support to the school’s work is appreciated.
School is now officially closed for summer. Wishing all families a lovely summer vacation
Sincerely,
Helen Gin
