SENIOR SCHOOL - June 15, 2023
A MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL DAVID HAMILTON
Dear Parents,
I’m sure we can all feel the excitement in every student as they await that moment when I announce that “School’s out for summer!” at the end of tomorrow’s celebration. But if they are, I would hazard to guess that in the long run they will look back at this year with fondness, and not something to escape. For in this year, fun returned in full force. Who could forget Camp Timberlane, “Little Shop of Horrors”, a full slate of ICE trips, the Cuba music trip, the GPX (India) trip, Challenge Week trips, Friday Night Lights, a semi-formal, a formal, and the list goes on.
And tomorrow we have a chance to re-live it all, as students from each grade will regale us with stories from their collective experience during the Closing Ceremony. In addition to the stories, we will honour students who have gone above and beyond as we present major awards. I hope that many of you are able to join us.
Looking ahead, report cards will be posted in YorkNet during the final week of June, and subject awards and certificates will be mailed home at that time.
Looking way ahead, next year we will start once again at Camp Timberlane. Grade 9 and 12 students will head up to camp on the Tuesday following Labour Day (September 5th), and the grade 10 and 11 students will follow them on the Wednesday. Students will return from camp on the Friday and start classes on Monday, September 11th. Timetables will be distributed the last week of August.
Please note the announcement below concerning the new York Shop where your child will be able to purchase the gym uniform, hoodies and spirit wear items on their student account in the coming year.
I opened with a listing of some of the many events that contributed to your child’s education. Let me close by thanking our incredible teaching staff for everything they have done to make those events come to life again, and for creating a rich and rewarding education, one that often extended beyond our walls and well beyond the hours of 9 and 4.
And thank you for everything that you do to support both your children and our teachers. Although you may not be quite as excited as your children as you anticipate the summer ahead, I wish you equal measures of fun and relaxation.
Cheers,
David
