On Wednesday, November 6, The York School will be participating in the National Take Our Kids to Work Day Initiative. There will be no grade 9 classes held that day and all grade 9 students are encouraged to participate. Grade 9 parents who haven’t already done so, should please complete this form to let us know whether they require or can provide a placement for their child and/or additional students.

This year, we are encouraging students and families to help alleviate food insecurity in our community and city by supporting our annual York Scares Hunger campaign in one of the following ways:
Daily Bread Food Bank —>
Bring in the following items and place them in your House bin outside the Student Life office in the cafeteria or the Middle School commons between October 21 - November 1Children’s Breakfast Clubs Charity
Make a donation to CBCC which serves 5000 hot meals a week
to elementary students in the GTA experiencing food insecurity.

HALLOWEEN - October 31
We are looking forward to handing out some serious house points on Halloween as staff and students contribute to our 4th C-Value - Creativity!
At 9:05am we will have two options for our community to participate in - a Halloween Costume Catwalk Assembly or a low-sensory, alternative programming classroom.
At 11:30am we will have a Halloween Carnival in the Fitness Centre for our Middle School students, hosted by the spooktacular YPA and our Spirit Council student leaders.
As always, Halloween at York continues to be an opportunity for us to show our sense of community and innovation through school-appropriate costumes and activities with sweet incentives.

REMEMBRANCE & INDIGENOUS VETERAN’S DAY ASSEMBLY -
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 13
On Wednesday, November 13, we are honoured to welcome Lieutenant-Colonel Jaime Phillips to York to speak about her past and present service in Canada’s Artillery. LCol Phillips was the first female Artillery Troop Commander deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan in 2007. Recently, she has completed a peacekeeping mission in Mali and is currently working as Chief of Operations at the 4th Division Headquarters in Toronto.
Additionally, our choir and band will perform and we look forward to the contributions of many student and staff speakers.

3. YOU ARE NOW LIVE! Enjoy your viewing experience. If you experience any technical challenges in viewing the live or on-demand videos, select the “Need Help?” link on the Yorkschoo LIVE homepage.

DUKE OF EDINBURGH’S AWARD PROGRAM REGISTRATION
Last week, the Grade 9 students were introduced to the Duke of Edinburgh Award Program at The York School.
The Award asks participants to make a sustained commitment to a skill, a service, and a physical recreation activity. Participants must also complete an Adventurous Journey.
The Award is self-directed, which means the participant chooses which activities they do in each area. Some of the many benefits of the award include:
experiencing how perseverance and achievement can raise self-confidence
getting more out of activities that participants are already involved in
being inspired to try something new
giving back to the community
Award holders are internationally recognized and can be a great addition to any resume or University application
Grade 9 students who are interested in taking on this challenge will be supported at The York School however, it is the responsibility of the individual student to plan, participate in, track, reflect and obtain supervisor sign-off for each required component of the Award.

Students can register on their own using this website or by attending Friday morning Duke of Ed help sessions with Ms Fuss. Registration closes on November 15.
